Shack sold a number of interesting mini-amplifiers from 1969-1980. A
few were exceptional and many were quite decent. The SA-100 was one of the first higher quality mini-amps sold by Radio Shack and it enjoyed great popularity in the early 1970's.. This offering is for one
of our favorite small mini-systems that combines the remarkable and
attractive JVC-UX7000 speakers with a fine 3 watts per channel
Realistic amplifier. A much bigger and more appealing sound than you
would expect from such a compact system. One reviewer were wrote: “
A more recent surprise was a pair of a supremely pleasant sounding
JVC SP- UX7000’s with 3” full range drivers. They have plentiful
bass for nearfield listening and a mid range that others have
described as ‘magical’. These speakers, from JVC's late 1990's "Executive Series" have achieved cult-like status. These speakers provide surprisingly good imaging and detail. They feature a carefully crafted cone design with hyper-aramid fibers, set in a diecast aluminum frame The wooden trim and a classic layout on
the amplifier go nicely with the Cherrywood speakers and the little amp's performance far exceeds that of most of the mini-amps that were common in the 1960's and 1970's. When combined with JVC's best mini-speaker, you end up with a low profile system that fits anywhere, looks retro-great and delivers remarkably decent sound. Note that it does not have capability for magnetic phono. You will need a small outboard preamp-- typically under $ 25 -- to add playback from modern turntables or changers. Most buyers east of the Mississippi will receive a refund of excess shipping charges
